Glad you are here and looking at the art and activities that surround my world in satisfying and uplifting ways.
Painting with Fabulous artist friends in St Francis Bay. It was great having two days together to splash and pour and out of the chaos came some wonderful paintings. Read more here:
It is a fun challenge to take a painting that was just a lot of nothing and then add more to it and see what happens ….
All in all a fun little painting that could have been discarded at any point but it was fun to push it as far as it could go. Looking back I see there are some moments that were good before I over played them – but if we played safe we would never learn.
Go ahead and have a fun time – take an old painting and make some huts and shacks – they don’t need to be perfect works of architecture.
It was a wonderful day with much splashing and banging to achieve glorious luminous first washes.
Our idea was to paint beautiful houses and huts in glowing colour and build the painting from this base.
Sadly we only had one day and we were not able to complete the paintings but the beginning was just thrilling. I hope to reconnect with these wonderful artist and bring this painting to its completion.
Thank you Fay Keevy for getting the Methodist Church Hall in JBay so that we could have this open and well-lit area for our creating.
Thank you to Christine Chapman for linking in all the St Francis Bay Artists and a Big thank you to all of you for bringing such a delicious spread of numsies for our lunch and tea.
Thank you to Irene Brand for fetching, carrying and helping me to set up and give me a place to sleep in between the art explorations. I am SO Blessed with Delightful Friends.
This was a beautiful workshop with some very special people. Tara offered her work place for this event. Participants were guided to retrace their Life Journey and find the patterns and places and meaningful intersection.

November 16th, 2013 was a wonderful day of art at the Country Crescent Hotel in Plettenberg Bay. we thought we might be able to paint outdoors in the beautiful surroundings but the weather had other ideas. Luckily we had the use of the small conference room.
And the art that came out of this group was just amazing. Many of this wonderful group had not painted before and some had not painted for many years.
In the fast pace of our Lives, we need to find the balance and keep our perspective.

It starts out looking reckless and dangerous.
Just pour on the first colour. Then add the second and third colour.
When this was dry I had to sit with the painting for a long time to see what it wanted to be.
The first washes or pours were in opaque colours so it was easy to lift out the shapes that were to be trees.
Lots of techniques and play and slowly, step-by-step the painting becomes what it always wanted to be.
More colour in the foreground was needed so the yellows and reds were brought back to play.
Creating the foreground – still lots of colour – mainly the primary colours and allowing them to find one another on the paper.
Lots more fun techniques, lifting, sliding, washing, stippling, stencilling … too much fun.
I think this is enough … but you never know!
My Friend, Douglas Magnus and I were sharing a moment on my mother’s bench facing the glorious beach of Jeffrey’s Bay. We were chatting about the Journey of Life and Honouring my Mom’s passing. It was a moment to be remembered and we took this photo of us smiling up into the camera held arm’s length away, hoping to capture the sense of Friendship and Quietness that settles when one stops the rush of life and reflects of the Magnificence of our Life Journey.
Douglas has been such an inspiration to so many people. He has a “terminal” diagnosis, but he is too busy being alive and sharing this with others to just let go and GO.
He GETS IT.
He sees the sunsets, the dawn the clouds and Light. He surfs in his favorite place in Jeffrey’s Bay, like he has done for decades. He has said farewell to friends who thought he would be leaving first. He blesses the lives of all those he encounters with his poems and writing.
Douglas is one of the MAGNIFICENT and God Loves him.
I am proud to call you my Friend dear Douglas and I hold you in my Heart always x
